Tradicionalment, els seus efectes s\u2019han atribu\u00eft a una capacitat insuficient per dissipar la calor acumulada: augmenta la temperatura corporal, disminueix el consum i es deteriora el rendiment productiu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tanmateix, aquesta interpretaci\u00f3 resulta incompleta. La reducci\u00f3 del consum explica nom\u00e9s una part de les p\u00e8rdues observades. L\u2019exposici\u00f3 a la calor tamb\u00e9 pot alterar la integritat intestinal, la resposta immunit\u00e0ria, l\u2019equilibri oxidatiu, la regulaci\u00f3 endocrina i el metabolisme dels nutrients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Per tant, l\u2019estr\u00e8s per calor s\u2019ha d\u2019entendre com una resposta sist\u00e8mica amb components metab\u00f2lics i inflamatoris. Aquest enfocament \u00e9s especialment rellevant en les vaques lleteres d\u2019alta producci\u00f3, que generen grans quantitats de calor durant la fermentaci\u00f3 ruminal i la s\u00edntesi de llet, i tamb\u00e9 en el bestiar bov\u00ed d\u2019engreix, on el pes, el grau d\u2019engreixament i les condicions d\u2019allotjament poden augmentar la susceptibilitat.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avaluaci\u00f3 de l\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic: m\u00e9s enll\u00e0 del THI<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L\u2019\u00edndex temperatura-humitat (THI) continua sent l\u2019eina m\u00e9s utilitzada per estimar la c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica ambiental. Els primers sistemes situaven l\u2019inici de l\u2019estr\u00e8s al voltant d\u2019un THI de 72; posteriorment, diferents estudis van proposar reduir el llindar fins aproximadament 68 per a vaques Holstein d\u2019alta producci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El THI no constitueix, per\u00f2, una frontera biol\u00f2gica exacta. S\u2019han descrit alteracions del consum, la producci\u00f3 o la composici\u00f3 de la llet amb valors inferiors a 68, i el llindar varia segons la resposta avaluada, el nivell productiu, la fase de lactaci\u00f3, l\u2019aclimataci\u00f3 i el sistema d\u2019allotjament. Com a refer\u00e8ncia pr\u00e0ctica, el risc comen\u00e7a a augmentar al voltant de 68, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 s\u2019han de considerar les hores d\u2019exposici\u00f3, la c\u00e0rrega acumulada i la recuperaci\u00f3 nocturna.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A m\u00e9s, el THI no incorpora directament la radiaci\u00f3 solar ni la velocitat de l\u2019aire. \u00cdndexs com el Comprehensive Climate Index (CCI) inclouen aquestes variables i poden associar-se millor amb determinats indicadors fisiol\u00f2gics. A la granja, l\u2019avaluaci\u00f3 hauria de combinar les dades ambientals \u2014registrades preferentment dins de les instal\u00b7lacions i a l\u2019al\u00e7ada dels animals\u2014 amb la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia respirat\u00f2ria, la temperatura corporal, el temps de remugament, el consum i el comportament.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fisiopatologia de l\u2019estr\u00e8s per calor en remugants<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Respostes per dissipar la calor<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quan la c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica supera la capacitat de l\u2019animal per eliminar calor, augmenta la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia respirat\u00f2ria i la perfusi\u00f3 cut\u00e0nia, s\u2019incrementa el consum d\u2019aigua, disminueix la ingesta i canvia el comportament: els animals romanen m\u00e9s temps drets i redueixen el descans en dec\u00fabit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aquestes respostes s\u00f3n inicialment adaptatives. La menor ingesta redueix la calor associada a la fermentaci\u00f3 i al metabolisme, per\u00f2 limita l\u2019aportaci\u00f3 d\u2019energia i nutrients. En condicions experimentals s\u2019han observat reduccions del consum pr\u00f2ximes al 30 %, tot i que la seva magnitud dep\u00e8n de la intensitat i la durada de l\u2019exposici\u00f3, el nivell productiu i l\u2019efic\u00e0cia de la refrigeraci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un estudi va comparar vaques exposades a la calor amb vaques mantingudes en condicions termoneutrals i alimentades de forma restringida per igualar el consum de les primeres (pair-fed). Les vaques sotmeses a calor van produir 9,6 kg menys de llet al dia, mentre que la reducci\u00f3 en el grup pair-fed va ser de 4,8 kg\/dia. En les condicions experimentals avaluades, aquests resultats indiquen que la disminuci\u00f3 del consum va explicar aproximadament la meitat de la p\u00e8rdua productiva.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Barrera intestinal i activaci\u00f3 immunit\u00e0ria<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3898\" data-end=\"4441\">Per afavorir la dissipaci\u00f3 augmenta el flux sanguini cap a la perif\u00e8ria i pot disminuir la perfusi\u00f3 espl\u00e0ncnica. En vaques lleteres s\u2019han observat associacions entre l\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic i diferents marcadors de permeabilitat gastrointestinal, tot i que la magnitud de la resposta varia entre animals i dissenys experimentals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4443\" data-end=\"4814\">El deteriorament de la barrera pot facilitar el pas de components microbians, com els <strong data-start=\"4529\" data-end=\"4555\">lipopolisac\u00e0rids (LPS)<\/strong>, cap a la circulaci\u00f3. El seu reconeixement per receptors immunitaris activa vies inflamat\u00f2ries que requereixen energia, glucosa i amino\u00e0cids. Aquests nutrients deixen aleshores d\u2019estar plenament disponibles per a la producci\u00f3, el creixement o la reproducci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estr\u00e8s oxidatiu i alteracions neuroendocrines<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4867\" data-end=\"5347\">L\u2019exposici\u00f3 a la calor tamb\u00e9 altera l\u2019equilibri oxidatiu i la regulaci\u00f3 neuroendocrina de l\u2019animal. L\u2019augment de la producci\u00f3 d\u2019esp\u00e8cies reactives d\u2019oxigen pot superar la capacitat antioxidant cel\u00b7lular i afavorir la peroxidaci\u00f3 lip\u00eddica, el dany de prote\u00efnes i ADN i la disfunci\u00f3 mitocondrial. A la gl\u00e0ndula mam\u00e0ria, aquest desequilibri pot comprometre l\u2019activitat biosint\u00e8tica de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules epitelials i contribuir al deteriorament de la producci\u00f3 i la composici\u00f3 de la llet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5349\" data-end=\"5719\">Paral\u00b7lelament, l\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic modifica l\u2019activitat de l\u2019eix <strong data-start=\"5411\" data-end=\"5444\">hipot\u00e0lem-hip\u00f2fisi-suprarenal<\/strong> i d\u2019altres sistemes endocrins. La resposta hormonal dep\u00e8n de la intensitat i la durada de l\u2019exposici\u00f3, del grau d\u2019aclimataci\u00f3 i del moment de l\u2019avaluaci\u00f3. Aquestes alteracions contribueixen a modificar el metabolisme, la resposta immunit\u00e0ria i la distribuci\u00f3 dels nutrients.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reprogramaci\u00f3 metab\u00f2lica i insulina<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5762\" data-end=\"6212\">A difer\u00e8ncia del que ocorre en un balan\u00e7 energ\u00e8tic negatiu convencional, les vaques sotmeses a calor solen presentar concentracions d\u2019insulina relativament elevades o una resposta insul\u00ednica superior a la de les vaques <em data-start=\"5981\" data-end=\"5991\">pair-fed<\/em>. Aquesta adaptaci\u00f3 afavoreix la utilitzaci\u00f3 de glucosa i limita la mobilitzaci\u00f3 de les reserves adiposes, fet que ajuda a explicar unes concentracions d\u2019<strong data-start=\"6145\" data-end=\"6185\">\u00e0cids grassos no esterificats (NEFA)<\/strong> inferiors a les esperades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"6214\" data-end=\"6735\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">La major depend\u00e8ncia de la glucosa com a combustible redueix la seva disponibilitat per a la s\u00edntesi de lactosa, principal determinant osm\u00f2tic del volum de llet. Juntament amb els canvis del consum i de la fermentaci\u00f3 ruminal, aquesta redistribuci\u00f3 de nutrients tamb\u00e9 pot contribuir a les alteracions del greix i de la prote\u00efna l\u00e0cties. La magnitud d\u2019aquesta resposta varia segons el nivell productiu de la vaca, la intensitat i la durada de l\u2019exposici\u00f3, la possibilitat de recuperaci\u00f3 durant la nit i l\u2019efic\u00e0cia dels sistemes de refrigeraci\u00f3. En situacions d\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic intens, les p\u00e8rdues poden aproximar-se o fins i tot superar els <strong data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"591\">10 kg de llet per vaca i dia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"594\" data-end=\"1173\">La resposta productiva no sempre \u00e9s immediata: es pot manifestar amb un cert retard i persistir durant diversos dies despr\u00e9s que millorin les condicions ambientals. La calor tamb\u00e9 pot reduir la producci\u00f3 de greix, prote\u00efna i s\u00f2lids totals, a m\u00e9s de modificar el perfil d\u2019\u00e0cids grassos de la llet. Aquests canvis responen a l\u2019acci\u00f3 conjunta del menor consum, la selecci\u00f3 de part\u00edcules de la dieta, les alteracions de la fermentaci\u00f3 i la biohidrogenaci\u00f3 ruminal, la menor disponibilitat de precursors i els efectes de l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu i de la inflamaci\u00f3 sobre la gl\u00e0ndula mam\u00e0ria.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reproducci\u00f3<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La reproducci\u00f3 \u00e9s especialment sensible a la calor. L\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic pot afectar el desenvolupament fol\u00b7licular, la compet\u00e8ncia de l\u2019o\u00f2cit, l\u2019expressi\u00f3 del zel, la funci\u00f3 luteal, l\u2019ambient uter\u00ed i la superviv\u00e8ncia embrion\u00e0ria primerenca. Com a conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia, durant els per\u00edodes c\u00e0lids solen disminuir la taxa d\u2019inseminaci\u00f3 i la probabilitat de concepci\u00f3, tot i que la magnitud varia segons el clima, el sistema reproductiu i les mesures de refrigeraci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Per\u00edode sec i transici\u00f3<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"2055\">L\u2019impacte de l\u2019estr\u00e8s t\u00e8rmic no es limita a la lactaci\u00f3. L\u2019exposici\u00f3 durant les darreres setmanes de gestaci\u00f3 pot alterar el desenvolupament de la gl\u00e0ndula mam\u00e0ria i la funci\u00f3 immunit\u00e0ria, a m\u00e9s de reduir la producci\u00f3 de llet en la lactaci\u00f3 seg\u00fcent. Per aquest motiu, les mesures de refrigeraci\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 han d\u2019incloure les vaques seques i, especialment, els animals pr\u00f2xims al part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2481\">Els efectes es poden estendre a la descend\u00e8ncia. Els vedells nascuts de vaques exposades a la calor durant la gestaci\u00f3 poden presentar un menor pes al naixement, alteracions en l\u2019adquisici\u00f3 de la immunitat passiva i canvis en el creixement i el rendiment posterior. Tamb\u00e9 s\u2019han observat modificacions en l\u2019expressi\u00f3 g\u00e8nica i en la metilaci\u00f3 de l\u2019ADN, fet que apunta a possibles mecanismes de programaci\u00f3 fetal i epigen\u00e8tica.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estr\u00e8s per calor en bestiar bov\u00ed d\u2019engreix<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En els sistemes de producci\u00f3 de carn, el risc augmenta especialment en la fase final de l\u2019engreix. El pes corporal, el grau d\u2019engreixament i l\u2019exposici\u00f3 a la radiaci\u00f3 dificulten l\u2019eliminaci\u00f3 de la calor; durant episodis extrems es poden comprometre el benestar, el rendiment i fins i tot la superviv\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Respostes i conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncies productives<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2880\" data-end=\"3290\">L\u2019augment de la freq\u00fc\u00e8ncia respirat\u00f2ria \u00e9s una de les primeres respostes observables. Si la c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica progressa apareixen panteix amb la boca oberta, protrusi\u00f3 de la llengua i salivaci\u00f3 excessiva, signes que indiquen que l\u2019animal t\u00e9 dificultats per controlar la seva temperatura. Tamb\u00e9 augmenta el consum d\u2019aigua, disminueix l\u2019activitat i els animals busquen ombra o es concentren a prop dels abeuradors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3292\" data-end=\"3679\">La reducci\u00f3 del consum limita l\u2019energia disponible per al creixement i pot disminuir el guany mitj\u00e0 diari. Una exposici\u00f3 breu pot tenir conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncies limitades, mentre que diversos dies sense recuperaci\u00f3 nocturna afavoreixen l\u2019acumulaci\u00f3 de calor. Els estudis en cebadors confirmen que l\u2019ombra redueix la c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica i millora la resposta fisiol\u00f2gica, el comportament i el rendiment.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Factors de risc i avaluaci\u00f3<\/h3>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"3714\" data-end=\"4269\">La susceptibilitat a la calor no \u00e9s igual en tots els animals. La capa fosca s\u2019associa amb una major absorci\u00f3 de radiaci\u00f3 solar i, per tant, amb una resposta t\u00e8rmica m\u00e9s intensa que l\u2019observada en animals de capa clara. El grau d\u2019engreixament, els antecedents de malaltia respirat\u00f2ria i un temperament excitable tamb\u00e9 poden augmentar el risc. Aix\u00ed mateix, els animals amb una major influ\u00e8ncia de <strong data-start=\"4110\" data-end=\"4125\">Bos indicus<\/strong>, com el <strong data-start=\"4134\" data-end=\"4145\">Brahman<\/strong> i els seus encreuaments, solen mostrar una major toler\u00e0ncia a la calor que els <strong data-start=\"4225\" data-end=\"4239\">Bos taurus<\/strong> purs i els seus encreuaments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"4271\" data-end=\"4972\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">En els cebadors oberts, la c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica est\u00e0 condicionada no nom\u00e9s per la temperatura i la humitat, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 per la radiaci\u00f3 solar i la velocitat del vent, factors que el <strong data-start=\"4447\" data-end=\"4454\">THI<\/strong> no incorpora directament. Per aquest motiu, en el bestiar bov\u00ed d\u2019engreix es pot utilitzar l\u2019<strong data-start=\"4547\" data-end=\"4575\">\u00edndex de c\u00e0rrega t\u00e8rmica<\/strong> o <strong data-start=\"4578\" data-end=\"4603\">Heat Load Index (HLI)<\/strong>, que integra la temperatura de globus negre \u2014indicativa de l\u2019efecte combinat de la temperatura ambiental i la radiaci\u00f3\u2014, la humitat relativa i la velocitat del vent. La radiaci\u00f3 solar incrementa la calor rebuda, mentre que el moviment de l\u2019aire n\u2019afavoreix la dissipaci\u00f3.
